Wandering folk society

The club that hosts larps

Who is the Wandering Folk Society?

Well, we are a bunch of wandering folk by nature of the hobby we like: LARP.

LARP, or Live Action Roleplay, is generally referring to the act of immersing oneself in a theatrical, improvisational, world for the sake of playing of a game or telling a story.

We of the Wandering Folk Society are a community of storytellers, adventurers, and dreamers united by a shared love of LARP. Our Society has first been made up of the community created by the LARP Event we now host, Reckoning LARP, a high-fantasy, high-emotion story which blends character-driven storytelling with myth, ritual, heroic conflict, and gameplay.

However, over the years, we have become more than just a game. We are a fellowship.

Whether you are here to forge your legend, explore fantastical cultures, or simply find a place among kindred spirits, WFS offers a space where your story matters and your presence shapes the worlds we want to create.

As a nonprofit social club, we are dedicated to fostering creativity, safety, and connection. Our events are meant to be collaboratively built and rooted in mutual respect, with clear expectations around consent, accessibility, accountability, and fun.

We invite you to wander with us.

What are the expectations?

Well, we really just want our folks to have a place to gather, find friendship, and have fun! To encourage that, here is what you can generally expect with some Codes of Conduct at the bottom.

When you become a Member of Wandering Folk Society, you are joining more than just a game.

You are stepping into a vibrant social club built around shared creativity, immersive storytelling, and collaborative worldbuilding.

A Living Community, Online and Off

Membership gives you access to our private, members-only Discord server: a space to talk about all things LARP, life, and especially our flagship game Reckoning, set in the realm of The March. In this space, you can roleplay between events, share lore, ask questions, brainstorm character ideas, or just connect with others who love the same strange and wonderful things you do.

Games Built for and by the Players

Our events are community-driven and designed around player agency. Staff and NPCs help shape the framework and handle the logistical planning, but the direction of the story is driven by your choices, your Culture’s values, and your character’s growth. Whether through politics, combat, crafting, diplomacy, or quiet personal moments, your actions matter and shape the world we build together.

Rich, Interactable Mechanics

The game features systems that support meaningful interaction—rituals, resource gathering, crafting, social intrigue, combat, and more—all built with consent and safety in mind. Our mechanics are designed to be immersive but intuitive, expanding as the community grows.

Events That Feel Like Coming Home

Expect immersive, dayslong experiences with fireside storytelling, spontaneous alliances, moonlit duels, bardic traditions, and unforgettable character moments. Events are held in outdoor venues that encourage connection to nature and a sense of being transported into another world.

A Social Club Rooted in Shared Values

Wandering Folk Society is a nonprofit social club, and that means everything we do is about building community. Members often contribute beyond the game by volunteering, sharing art, helping run events, or supporting others in and out of character. This is a space for collaboration, mutual care, and growth.

Support for Newcomers

Whether you are new to LARP or have years of experience, we are here to help. You will have access to guides, safety policies, mechanics, lore, and a welcoming community ready to answer questions and support your journey into the world of Reckoning and beyond.

A Voice in the Community

As a Member of Wandering Folk Society, you are not just a participant, you are part of a social club. That means you have the opportunity to vote on key decisions, elect leadership, and help shape the direction of the organization. We believe in collective stewardship, and your voice matters in how our events, policies, and shared spaces evolve.

Shared Expectations, Clear Values

Because we are a community-first organization, we rely on a shared set of expectations to help us maintain a space that is safe, inclusive, and creatively fulfilling. By becoming a Member, you agree to uphold the values of respect, consent, inclusion, and personal accountability, both at our events and in all community spaces.

What is the structure?

We are, first and foremost, folks who like LARP.

LARP is Live Action Roleplay. To LARP is to immerse oneself in an agreed upon setting and world to tell a story or play a game. LARPs can include anything from historical reenactments to murder mystery parties to fully living for several days in a high-fantasy medieval world. A bunch of us met at an immersive fantasy LARP and, eventually, the community grew beyond the walls of the game.

We then, all of us, have contributed to this Club in one way or another.

The hope is to collaborate more with like-minded folks and otherwise contribute more to the worlds we create.

Wandering Folk Society (WFS) is thus a LARP-centered social club that builds community through play, creativity, and shared responsibility. Everyone who joins is a Community Member. Members are expected to uphold courtesy, kindness, and integrity.

Only Members can buy entry to our games and events. Our events are often partnered with local communities and businesses to connect with and contribute to the places we visit.

Within WFS, Members may take on different roles:

  • Participants: Anyone who attends our games and events. Most volunteers begin here.

  • Stewards: Volunteers who help run games, often led by Leads responsible for areas like story, rules, logistics, or culture.

  • Wardens: Elected Officers (President, Secretary, Treasurer, etc.) who manage the club’s operations and resources. They serve two-year terms.

  • Board Members: Appointed or elected individuals who provide governance, oversight, and long-term direction.

Members have voting rights and this club will be holding elections on October 20, 2026 (and then every two years thereafter).

WFS is a nonprofit working toward 501(c)(7) status, which means we reinvest our budget back into our mission rather than profit. This structure helps ensure the Society is sustainable, community-driven, and here for the long haul.
